The Wedding

The Wedding

This morning during my devotion time I was thinking about this weekend when I was blessed to perform a wedding for a sweet couple.

The WeddingThey were strong in their faith and relationship with Jesus with a firm understanding of the “Divine Covenant” they were making with Christ. I was reflecting on the ceremony and how this young couple had such a profound, uncomplicated relationship with Christ.

In preparing for their wedding I asked them a question that is intimidating to many, “Why Jesus and how would you describe your relationship with Him?”

The question is important because Jesus Christ changes the way you see your marriage, your family, your job and the world.

Are you prepared to answer, “Why Jesus?”

Are you a first generation Christian or are you the spiritual legacy of family generations before you? Did your faith walk begin with your family or are you the spiritual legacy of those Christians we read about in the Bible?

Hebrews 11:38 describes the faith of all those Christians who faced severe persecution so that we could hear the word of Christ. We are all   the spiritual legacy of those courageous Christians who refused to deny Christ. Hebrews 11 describes them as heroes of the faith and says, The world was not worthy of them.

Christ has taken me around the world with Teach To Transform into places where persecution is not just bible history, but occurring today. I have been so humbled and inspired to meet Christians who are courageous in the face of severe persecution leaving behind a spiritual legacy that is full of courage and passion for Christ.

We will probably never face persecution that will cost us the ultimate price, but we are exactly where God wants us and we must recognize our divine appointments. Is your mission field your children, family, friends or coworkers?

The Wedding

It was apparent that the families of this young couple had a tremendous influence on their faith walk. It has been said that the greatest legacy or heritage we can leave in this world is the Spiritual Heritage of our Children.

Are you creating a spiritual legacy in your children?

The WeddingI told my sons, who are now fathers, that I was a great parent until I had children and then I realize there is no manual. All we have to give is LOVE, and praise God the result of our love is love.

Many young couples today spend more time on the wedding planning than preparing to spend their life together in a Christ-centered marriage. This young couple was committed to their faith, which prepared them for their wedding day. They were seeking understanding of what this day means and to see their wedding vows through the eyes of the Lord Jesus Christ. It is said that marriages fail 50% of the time, but those who commit their lives and their marriage to Christ with daily devotion and prayer will only fail less than one in a thousand.

Are you ready to answer, “Why Jesus?” It was a critical question I needed to ask this young couple because the future of their marriage depended on the answer.

The WeddingThey described Christ as the “Light of the world,” and that “Jesus is my friend who never lets us walk alone.”

Isaiah 41:10 So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with righteous right hand.

John 9:5 While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.

Their personal relationship with Christ was not complicated or deep theology, it was simply LOVE.

Your relationship with Christ is not a theological debate, it is your testimony and how He transformed your life so tell your story with compassion and love. When Christ wraps his powerful arms around you, you will be consumed by his incredible, unfailing LOVE.

Remember John 3:16 and 1 John 3:16.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.

1 John 3:16 This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us.

This weekend I was at peace that this young couple would be an example of a Christ-centered marriage submitting their lives to the love of Christ and each other.

A love that can only be accomplished when Christ is your first love, and the Holy Spirit guides them. They understand that their life journey will be joyful, but when the storms come from their jobs, budgeting time with their children, aging and health challenges they will have peace to remember God said in Psalm 46:10 Be still and know that I am God.

The WeddingLike this young couple, I pray when God gives you a divine appointment with someone who is searching for the truth and asks, “Why Jesus?” you are always prepared to answer.
